Woven white canvas waist belt with gilt brass male/female buckle; Attached to a static gilt 'D' ring is a short brocade sword sling, being made of woven light blue cloth and decorated with two rows of gold wire embroidery. The sling has a backing of dark blue leather. Attached to this sling is a pronged buckle of gilt metal that features an Imperial Crown within a circle, another voided circle; and beneath, a final circle also with a Crown within. Attached left and right of this design are a pair of eagles.
Attached to another mobile 'D' ring, mounted on a white woven canvas runner, is a longer sword sling and of the same design & construction as the former.

Sir John Grandy served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees at the Imperial War Museum and was Station Commander at the Duxford site of the Museum. After joining the RAF in 1931, Grandy took command of 249 (Fighter) Squadron during the Battle of Britain. After a distinguished post-war career in the RAF, Sir John Grandy became Chief of Air Staff at the Ministry of Defence between 1967 and 1971, and finally became Marshal of the RAF in 1971.
