trousers
Khaki slacks made of Saxony Serge. Slacks feature an exposed three-button waist opening to the left waist, and a slash pocket to the right. The waist is adjustable by having two concealed 'elasticated' tabs that pass through the rear waist band, allowing them to be fastened to a button positioned one above the waist opening; the other above the right slash pocket. The legs feature adjustable tabs, two each leg; enabling the ends to be gathered & secured around the ankles for a tidier fit when wearing boots & anklets.
Label
With the introduction of mixed-sex batteries in Anti-Aircraft Command, it was found that the ATS Service Dress was not a practical uniform. Women went on to adopt man's Battledress, but by late 1941 an ATS Pattern BD was in use. Later improved, the ATS Utility Pattern BD was the final approved version.
The modifications to the slacks were the adjustable elasticated waist tabs, and the buttons fitted to waist closure were reduced from four to three. These particular examples feature a Sealed Pattern label, dated inclusively from 23/5/60 through to 14/12/67, and have been last inspected by a commercial supplier on 22/1/70.
