Tunic, Serge, Blue: Lieutenant Colonel, Royal Marines
Single-breasted tunic of blue serge featuring an open notched collar, epaulettes, four button fastening, pleated breast pockets with scalloped button flaps, bellows skirt pockets with rectangular button flaps, gilt waistbelt hooks, pointed cuff detailing with two small decorative buttons and a rear vent. All buttons are gilt Royal Marines pattern (King's Crown).
Attached to outside ends of the epaulettes are gilt 'RM' shoulder titles, with the rank insignia of one star and one crown fitted above, denoting the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. At the collar points are fitted white metal and gilt Royal Marines globe and laurel collar badges. Above the left breast pocket are sewn the following medal ribbons: War Medal 1914-20; Victory Medal 1914-19; 1939-45 Star; Africa Star; France & Germany Star; Defence Medal; War Medal 1939-45 (with bronze Oak leaves).
Originally referred to as the 'Frock, Serge' until 1952, the Blue Serge Tunic was identical to the khaki Service Dress worn by British Army Officers in all but colour and name.
