belt, indoor uniform, Voluntary Aid Detachment, WWI
Belt: a strip of starched white material with provision for two-stud fastenings, adjustable to three lengths.
The explanatory letter with this gift explains that a red dress and apron formed an indoor uniform for VAD / Red Cross nurses during the First World War. Starched / plastic cuffs, collars and belts with the gift have been attributed to the First World War uniform as not appropriate to the other elements of the gift.
The dress and apron had been in the possession of the VAD Association for some time but the original provenance was not known.
