Physical description

helmet Mk 1 steel helmet of lighter weight steel (3 holes drilled either side of brim to indicate this); painted olive green; elasticated cloth chinstrap and standard rubberised liner

History note

helmet belonged to Stuart Rayner (1926 - 1979) who joined the BBC at 15, worked in War Reporting Unit, then at Evesham Training School, then at Bletchly Park on the Ultra project. Continued later as recording engineer and designer. Was Assistant to Director of Engineering, and seconded to Government department for special duties. Part of dispersed collection of acquired by Dept of Photographs Gift via Photos 1996
