Physical description
One-piece head covering made of padded fabric, printed with autumnal 'oak leaf' patterned camouflage one side, fully reversible to white on the other. Cut so that it covers the wearer's head, neck, and throat, the hood would fit beneath an appropriate winter coat and seal all exposed areas apart from the face from the cold. There are circular apertures to the ears, but blanked with grey wool blanket-like material.

Following the Russian winter of 1942, Waffen-SS troops were commonly issued with winter protective clothing of the same design as that used by the Army, being grey reversible to white. From 1943 camouflage patterns that were unique to the Waffen-SS began to be used, some of autumn to white, spring/summer to white, or of 'dot' pattern (see UNI 12310).
