Physical description
Single-breasted battledress-style blouse of blue-grey serge, featuring a stand-and-fall collar with double hook and eye closing, epaulettes, fly front, two pleated breast pockets with scalloped concealed button flaps, integral waistbelt secured at the right side by a sliding brass buckle, button cuffs and two internal chest pockets.
To each epaulette is sewn two RAF rank braids, denoting the rank of Flight Lieutenant, with each braid being a thin light blue stripe flanked either side by black stripes (those on the right epaulette have faded and now appear red). Above the left breast pocket is sewn a RAF pilot's brevet, while directly below this but above the pocket is sewn the medal ribbon of the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Standard uniform blouse worn by all RAF personnel from 1943, but initially adopted by aircrew only from 1941. Modelled on the Army Battledress.
