ring, Austro-Hungarian, 'Gold gab ich fur Eisen' war fund
A small metal ladies wedding ring inscribed "Gold gab ich fur Eisen 1914 O.S.K.".
During the First World War women in Austria-Hungary who gave up their gold wedding rings for the war effort were given an iron replacement with the inscription: Gold gab ich fur Eisen', translated as: 'I gave Gold for Iron'.
