funnel plate, battle damaged, HMS Vindictive at Zeebrugge
flat metal plate with several bullet and shells holes
HMS Vindictive was an Arrogant class protected cruiser converted to the role of assault ship. She was tasked to put parties of Naval troops and Royal Marines on the Mole of Zeebrugge in order to silence the guns there while other ships were used to block the Canal. During the raid Vindictive came under very heavy fire, especially as the troops were unable to silence the guns. Vindictive managed to return to Britain but was subsequently sunk when used as a block ship during the abortive attempt to block Ostend on 9/May/1918.
