Sheet steel cut into a maple leaf shape with rectangular depression in middle, into which is inserted a photograph of a soldier; 'MAPLE LEAF FOREVER' is etched with dots around outside of photograph.
Photograph is of John Barter who volunteered for service, aged 37, in 1915 and joined the 143rd Bn CEF (BC Bantams). When moved to France & Flanders in 1917 he was medically downgraded and transferred to the Corps of Canadian Railway Troops. He later served in the Royal Canadian Artillery and survived to return home in 1919. See correspondence for further information.
