Physical description

Cylindrical metal tin with screw cap. The label is predominantly blue and features a picture of a bluebell flower with five flower heads in front of a circular yellow background along with the words â€œBLUEBELL Metal Polish BRITISH MADEâ€�.

Label

A tin of 'Bluebell' brand metal polish made in Britain during the Second World War period. 'Bluebell' metal cleaning products were a household name in the 1930s and even merited a specific and relevant contextual reference in Patrick Hamilton's 1935 novel 'The Midnight Bell', the first in his famous London trilogy 'Twenty Thousand Streets under the Sky' (p.102; 'a bottle-shaped tin of Blue-bell').
