A gilding metal domed small button to the 16/5 Lancers, the face of the button with a narrow outer rim, the centre embossed with a pair of lances and swallow-tail pennants crossed in saltire, a shamrock wreath at the base. Superimposed on the lances a circlet bearing FIFTH ROYAL IRISH, surmounted by a King's crown, an Irish Harp in the centre. To the reverse a single central moveable shank and stamped FIRMIN & SONS LTD / LONDON.
The button secured to the label with a length of white cotton tape, sealed to reverse with a single red sealing wax seal bearing the Arms of the Board of Ordnance encircled with CHIEF INSPECTOR.
