History note
Current from September 1943 and carried forward as HQ BAOR.
Worn on both arms of battle dress or service dress by all members of HQ Staff 21 Army Group and GHQ 2nd Echelon 21 Army Group.
21 Army Group was commanded by General, later FM & Viscount, Bernard Montgomery. It carried out the invasion of North West Europe in June 1944 and subsequent advance to the Elbe. Montgomery took the surrender of the German armed forces at Luneburg Heath in May1945.
21 A. Gp. comprised 2 British and 1 Canadian Armies. These in turn included Allied contingents, including Polish, French, Czech, Belgian and Dutch troops.
