badge, trade, British, Royal Navy, Electrical Branch
'L' in the centre of a pair of diagonal lightning flashes, surmounted by a small six-pointed star. Embroidered in red onto a dark blue, rectangular, with curved top, trade badge. To be worn on working blue uniform.
Up until 1944, the Torpedo branch held responsibility for electrical matters of the Royal Navy. Upon the creation of an electrical branch, a Torpedo-anti-submarine branch was also formed and new badges were created to represent these different specialisations.
This badge has had the following trade titles: Electrician's Mate, 1st Class 1948 - 1955; Electrical Mechanic, 1st Class 1955 - 1969.
This badge may also have been used by the Indian post-partition Navy.
