Webley Fosbery New Improved Small Frame (converted)
Webley Fosbery New Improved Small Frame (converted) revolver.
Originally made (but possibly unfinished, see below) as an eight shot .38. It is one of 71 .38 Fosbery revolvers that remained warehoused, and which were converted to .455 in September 1914. Right grip broken bottom left corner.
Rare revolver. This example has no indication of a pre-1904 proofmark on the frame, so may not have been finished or submitted to proof for some reason. These conversions usually bear both pre-1904 proof marks and 1904 marks. The 5th Battalion KOYLI was created in 1908 as a Territorial Battalion. N.S. Walker was gazetted a Second Lieutenant in 1909, a Lieutenant in 1913, attended a course of instruction at Hythe, and went to France on 13 April 1915.
