Description: introduced into Russian service in 1895 for a Nagant-designed revolver. The cartridge configuration was required because of the gas sealing system incorporated into the revolver. As the hammer is cocked, the cylinder moves forward to seal the gap between cylinder and barrel. Although needlessly complex, the revolver was sturdy, and remained in use until after the Second World War. This is a commercial example.
