Physical description

bomb with enabling keys fully weighted drill nuclear bomb with pair of enabling keys

History note

This is an inert replica of the live bomb, complete with all external manual operating devices and electrical connections. It was used in the training of ground crews in ground handling and loading procedures and for the training of air crews in flight handling procedures. The drill bomb was capable of being carried by all designated aircraft under all flight conditions likely to be encountered in combat sorties, and was not released from the aircraft in flight except under emergency conditions, when, providing the weapon simulator was not connected in circuit, release was effected by means of the aircraft jettison facilities.
