History note
This model was originally made by H H Cawood for the IWM, and was allocated the acquisition number 16947 on 27 August 1928. In 1929, C Ffoulkes, the then Director, gave it to the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), who then transferred it back to the Museum in 1963.
Cast into stone pillar, and in writing on paper
Cast into the stone pillar "Ypres, Here the invader was brought to a standstill, 1918, Hell Fire Corner".
Text on base includes "One of 240 stones stretching from Switzerland to the Channel....", "seven stones on the Ypres salient..."
