Label
This flag was obtained by former sailor, Gordon Gunstone whilst serving on the Dido Class Cruiser, HMS Euryalus in 1945. Sailing to the Far East in December 1944, Euryalus joined the 5th Cruiser Squadron, part of Task Force 63. Operating in the Pacific, the task force shelled the Japanese on the Sakishima-gunto islands amidst kamikaze raids. In March, Euryalus assisted with the bombardment of Okinawa prior to the landing of ground forces. Joining the United States Naval Forces in July, carriers from the task force attacked the Tokyo - Yokohama area. In August the task force participated in the liberation of Hong Kong.
It is not known where this flag was obtained, but as personnel from the ship carried out policing duties in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Fiji it is likely that it is associated with either of these locations.
