Olive green satchel type bag; single compartment; full width/half width flap with 2 black leather tab/buckle closures; black leather edging; black leather carrying handle on top of flap.

History note

Issued to soldiers to carry extra kit that they did not require in combat; front line soldiers were issued with one pack, rear echelon soldiers were issued with two.

This unpleasant-looking character is called the Squander Bug, and it was created during the Second World War by artist Phillip Boydell, an employee of the National Savings Committee. The cartoon bug appeared in press adverts and poster campaigns as a menace who encouraged shoppers to waste money rather than buy war savings certificates.
