Physical description
Rectangular pack of grey canvas, the edges reinforced with brown leather, with brown leather adjustable shoulder straps. The exterior front, rear and side panels are covered with red-brown animal fur. The front flap has four small leather loops stitched to the exterior for the attachment of a messkit, and is closed via two brown leather straps fitted to the lower edge that can be fastened to metal buckles on the bottom of the pack, where there are also two metal hooks fitted. On the right (wearer's) side of the pack is stitched a small leather loop, with two more stitched to the left side as well as a 'D' ring fitting. On the underside of the front flap is a large pocket secured by a single leather strap and buckle, while the main interior body of the pack forms a single compartment closed by four flaps (two horizontal, two vertical), secured by two leather straps and buckles.

Worn by troops of the Imperial German Army in the First World War, and although superseded by 1934 and 1939 Army models, the M1907/13 'Tornister' pack continued to be produced and issued to various paramilitary and political organisations in Nazi Germany such as the SA, SS and the RAD during the 1930's and 1940's.
