cupro-nickel circular medal. The obverse design bears the crowned head of Queen Elizabeth II (the Wynne effigy) surrounded by the legend 'ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA FID.DEF.' The reverse design bears the symbol of the 'Lamussu' (a sculpture dating from the Assyrian period) above the single word 'IRAQ'. The medal, which is one and a quarter inches in diameter (30mm), is suspended by a straight swivelling bar from a ribbon one and a quarter inches in width. The ribbon is sand coloured with three narrow vertical stripes in the centre of (left to right) black, white and red, these being the colours of the Iraq national flag. Where a clasp has been awarded, this is a straight, plain clasp affixed to the suspender bar, and bears the dates '19 MAR TO 28 APR 2003'.
