History note
George Hodgkin served as a Section Leader in the ARP Casualty Service in Croydon, Surrey. His King's Commendation for Brave Conduct was Gazetted in the Second Supplement to The London Gazette of Friday 21 February 1941 (Page 1063).
This is an example of the Second Pattern King's Commendation for Brave Conduct emblem, with the twin pin fitting rather than the later brooch fitting.
The King's Commendation for Brave Conduct, originally simply comprised the Certificate. However, in 1943, the plastic badge was issued to denote civil commendations. the badge was deisgned by Kruger Gray. This pattern of badge was later replaced by a Silver Laurel Leaf to denote the civil commendation. The first pattern was fixed with two pins, the second pattern with a small brooch-pin fitting. Both badges were intended for everyday wear in civilian dress. Recipients were each issued with two badges,
