Bronze star (H 62mm x W 45mm), three pointed, the fourth and topmost point being displaced by a crown surmounted by an integral ring for suspension. Across the star's face are two crossed swords whose points and hilts protrude between the star points. In the centre and superimposed upon the blades of the crossed swords a scroll bearing dates of eligibility, '1914-15'. On the face a circular wreath and at its base a 'GV' cypher. Suspender: circular ring (integral with piece). Ribbon (width 31mm): red/white/blue (all shaded and watered). Reverse named (impressed) as follows: 'CAPT. P.C. JOYCE. CONN.RANG.'.
