Reverse design: Britannia, cloaked and helmeted, standing facing right. Her left arm is extended and in her left hand she holds a palm branch and an open scroll, her right hand supports a trident, behind her and facing right stands the British lion. On the horizon, to the right and partly obscured by the sea, are the spreading rays of the sun.
Exergue text: "AFRICA" .
Suspender: straight bar, swivel.
Ribbon colours: black & yellow & green.

King Edward VII issue Africa General Service medal with Somaliland clasp awarded to (188441) Able Seaman W T Nicholls, HMS Diana, Royal Navy. The clasp records service as follows - Somaliland 1908-10 between 19 August 1908 and 31 January 1910. 397 members of the ship's company of HMS Diana received this medal with the 'Somaliland 1908-10' clasp.
The medal was designed by Georges W de Saulles, and his initials appear to the right and immediately below the monarch's bust on the obverse.
