Physical description
MODEL.
Cross shape: Greek cross, ornamental (arms flare slightly at the extremities).
Design: GRI cypher, overlaid, in the centre of smaller raised Greek cross superimposed upon the principal cross. At the end of each arm of the principal cross an Imperial crown.
Suspender: straight bar, slotted, connected to piece via circular link.
Ribbon colours: purple & white.
Ribbon pattern: white/purple/white.
Bar (when awarded) design: straight bar with crown (Imperial).

History note
Specimen example of a King George V issue MC.
The instituting Royal Warrant dated 28 December 1914, did not allow a recipient to use the letters "MC" after his name. This restriction, not favoured by the Army, was lifted by a revising Warrant dated 23 August 1916.
