Medal shape and design: star, six pointed, each point ball-tipped'. At the centre, a shield, bearing the arms of the town of Kimberley. Below and half surrounding the shield a scroll which bears the town's motto, "SPERO MELIORA" (all in a circular centrepiece to the star and surrounded by an edged band bearing text).
Obverse text : "KIMBERLEY" & "1899-1900".
Reverse text: "MAYOR'S SIEGE MEDAL" & "1900".
Suspender : ring, circular attached to straight bar with embossed scrolls.
Ribbon colours: black & red & white & blue & yellow.
Ribbon pattern: BLACK/red/white/blue/YELLOW.
Second Anglo-Boer War (1899-1902) campaign medal awarded to Lieutenant H B H Johnston, Royal Garrison Artillery. This medal was presented in 1900 by the Mayor of Kimberley to the defenders of the town who served during the three months' siege.
