Label

Distinguished Flying Medal awarded to Flying Officer (Air Gunner) Thomas Gould (40 Squadron, RAF) for his part in bombing operations against the German warship SMS Scharnhorst, whilst that vessel was being refitted in the port of Brest after 22 March 1941. For citation see the 'London Gazette', issue for 2 September 1941. Flying Officer Gould was killed in action on 13 September 1944, while serving with 640 Squadron and is buried in the Reichswald Forest Cemetery.

History note

One of a bar for 4 medals, OMD 4030-4033. Purchased as Lot 645 in Spink's Sale of 7 November 1995.
