cupro-nickel medal, 36mm diameter. Obverse design: King George VI, head, with legend: 'GEORGIVS VI D:G:BR:OMN:REX F:D:IND:IMP.'. Reverse design: Royal crown surmounting a stylised oak tree and supported on either side by an heraldic lion with dates '1939' & '1945' and text 'THE DEFENCE MEDAL' (exergue formed by two wavy lines). Ribbon colours: green, flame and black (green/black/green/FLAME/green/black/green).
History note
Second World War service medal awarded to Charity Bick GM. Miss Bick served in Air Raid Precautions (ARP) and, later, joined the Women's Auxiliary Air Force (subsequently Women's Royal Air Force) and served until 1962. The citation for her George Medal was published in the London Gazette of 14 February 1941 (see OMD 3826).
