Small modified 1883 pattern Navy Commissioned Officer's dagger.
Hilt form: domed cap-piece pommel in gilt brass, adorned with single cherry blossom and leaves on stippled ground. Pommel cap meets coarse-grained white 'same' ray skin grip in decorative scalloped edge. Tapered grip is spirally ribbed and bound with nine triple strands of gilt wire. Grip is adorned with a brass menuki, single cherry blossom on each side. Stippled ground gilt brass fuchi separates grip from gently recurved, near 'S'-shaped crossguard. A single seppa is fitted either side of guard, the inner edge of which [facing blade] is slotted to mate with scabbard catch.
Blade form: slender single-edged plated blade tapering to prow point. A single narrow fuller is formed on each side. Plain brass habaki encloses base of blade.
