whole description : ORIGINAL (modified leather-covered sword?)
hilt form: two-piece wooden grip inelegantly bound with cloth tape which has been coated with black paint. The tape has loosened and unwound, the note on the origins of the weapon being inscribed in biro on the white underside, see Inscription. The end of the grip is covered with a brasscap-piece pommel over a short section of "same" [rayskin]. Although well worn the pommel recalls that on the leather covered shin-gunto, WEA /1277,and it is possible that this sword is a similar late war emergency pattern which has lost the leather cover from its grip. Plain brass fuchi and nearcircular copper tsuba with incised oakleaves, within a circle, on each side. Single brass seppa either side tsuba. A black leather press stud strap hasbeen fitted around the seppa.
blade form : narrow and well worn short tachi-style blade with two narrow fullers formed on left side and single broad fuller on right side.
