Physical description
Pommel form: beaked with rounded end housing T-shaped attachment slot. Press stud, on left side, operates locking catch via internal coiled spring. Back of pommel flat and straight except for short bevelled sections either side of tang where pommel meets grips. Underside continues the double curve of the grips. A small, 4.8 mm diameter, cleaning hole is drilled transversely through pommel just below bevelled section. Pommel meets grips vertically.
Grips form: two-piece wood, retained by two screw bolts with recessed slotted circular nuts. Each grip is marked with two deep vertical grooves located midway between the retaining bolts. Underside rounded and shaped to hand, back rounded and straight.
Crossguard form: lower section formed into short, straight vestigial guard. Upper section formed into high full muzzle ring. Distance from top of muzzle ring to back of hilt approximately 34 mm.
Blade form: single-edged, prow point, fullered. Blade back rounded, fuller stops rounded.
Finish: pommel, tang, crossguard and ricasso blued; blade finish, parkerised.
Scabbard: steel topmount having rimmed mouthpiece with tab extension at back securing the brass double hook. Mouthpiece springs retained by three round-headed rivets front and back. Round-edged topmount attached to body by small staple front and back. Black finished leather body gathered and sewn along centre of back forming raised seam. Body gently tapers to round-edged steel chape, the back of which is raised to accommodate seam. Chape, secured by single staple front and back, tapers more sharply to broad rounded tip. Mounts blued.
Belt frog: narrow brown leather belt frog with a scabbard sleeve formed of two leather loops secured by four rivets each to narrow belt flap, at the top of which is a belt loop with hilt retaining loop.
