image: based on a painting Sickert produced in 1914, 'The Soldiers of King Albert the Ready' (Graves Art Gallery,
Sheffield). This was painted in conjunction with another work, 'The Integrity of Belgium', both inspired by an example of Belgian heroism
during the defence of Liege in August 1914. The 'Soldiers of Albert the Ready' was offered by Sickert as a gift to the Imperial War
Museum, but it was turned down on the grounds that Sickert had not witnessed the event. See letter from Sir Bertram Cubitt to ffoulkes, 31
January 1925 (archive file 166/5 Box 19).
