[For the War Orphan, Let's Subscribe to the Loan. French composition. A rich peasant, a worthy but ill-advised man, was hesitating to subscribe to the loan. A column of repatriated people brings thin, pale French citizens to his village who tell him about the sufferings courageously endured in the invaded territories by those who await the hour of deliverance with unshakable confidence. The peasant, already moved, questions a ten-year-old who is part of the procession. This child has also suffered, he has lost his father in the war, his mother is dead, and he does not know what fate is in store for him. The peasant then understands where his duty lies. He welcomes the child into
his house and subscribes to provide forty francs of annual income for his benefit, which will later ensure a capital of at least 1200 francs. Berger-Levrault military printworks]
