LORD SWINTON PRESENTS FLASHES TO WEST AFRICAN AIR CORPS.
Original wartime caption: At a recent parade of the newly-formed West African Air Corps at Accra, Gold Coast, Lord Swinton, the Resident Minister in British West Africa, inspected and presented flashes to those who had qualified as African Airmen Class I. These airmen will replace Europeans as far as possible as motor drivers, mechanics and ground staff. The conditions for receiving the flash are fourfold. The applicant to be African Airman Class I, he must have passed the equivalent R.A.F.trade test; he must have passed the educational test, and he must be recommended by his section officer.
