Collection: Elizabeth Maude Richards Collection Photographs
Material relating to the visit of the Women's Auxiliary Corps (India) contingent to the Victory Parade celebrations in London on 8 June 1946. The WAC(I) contingent was led by Senior Commander Maude Elizabeth Richards and spent several days in the UK before going back to India.
Photos include: The women aboard the RMS MAURETANIA which brought them to Britain; Senior Commander Richards with two Indian women and the ship's master; inspection by King George VI and Queen Elizabeth; the WACs arrive at King's Cross station in London; sightseeing in London; boating on the Serpentine; in the recreation room at Radnor Place, London; Lady Slim at a tea party for the WACs at Radnor Place; scouts selling programmes to the Indian contingent as they wait for the Victory Parade to commence; the WACs on a visit to Scotland; The WACs with representatives of the QAIMNS (Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service) and ATS (Auxiliary Territorial Service); a civic reception at Hove in Sussex; the contingent on board the RMS CARTHAGE on their way back to India - includes portraits of Senior Commander Richards and Colonel Green (2 i/c); a reception at Malabar Hill in Bombay to mark their return.
