The second de Havilland Vampire prototype, LZ551, flown by Lt-Cdr Eric 'Winkle' Brown, landing aboard HMS OCEAN during deck-landing trials, 3 December 1945. This was the first time a jet aircraft had been landed aboard an aircraft carrier. The aircraft was operating with the Service Trials Unit (No. 778 Squadron) and was also known as the Sea Vampire Mk X.
Albert Edward Finch served aboard HMS OCEAN as an aircraft engine mechanic. The photos were taken by the ship's photographer.
