Album of photographic prints, postcards and Christmas cards compiled by Matron Elizabeth Davies whilst working at Red Cross hospitals in Britain and Belgium during the First World War. Amongst the photographic material are group and individual portrait photographs of wounded servicemen (including Belgian soldiers) and medical staff.
The Christmas cards are from the British 7th Division (1916 and 1917); 1/6th King's (Liverpool Regiment) for 1917; the BEF for 1917; and a card to be sent from people in Leicestershire and Rutland to soldiers serving with the Leicestershire Regiment in 1915. Amongst the tourist style postcards locations covered include: Arras, Bruges, Brussels, Calais, Cherbourge, Cologne, Paris, Salonika, Toulon, Tours and Venice. There are also a couple of examples of French patriotic wartime postcards and a nice example of a patriotic embroidered card with the motto 'Britannia Rules the Waves'.
Physical description
One brown cloth-covered photograph album containing photographic prints, photo postcards, postcards and Christmas cards. The card album pages are detached from the album cover. The contents of the album are glued to the pages, except for one photo postcard which has been detached. Inside the front cover of the album os a small red label indicating place of purchase: Walker - Chemist - Sutton Coldfield.
