Object description
Photographs of the I Polish Corps in Scotland during the Second World War taken by various Polish official photographers. Władysław Prytys collection (HU 109697 - HU 109799).
The collection depicts mainly (c. 90%) service of the 1st Polish Corps in Scotland between 1940 and 1947.
Other topics include Polish units in France prior to German Invasion of France 1940, Battle of Narvik 1940, Polish soldiers in Siberian camps after their release from Soviet captivity.
A full list of negatives and prints with a general description of content is available below.
The collection consists of around 20000 negatives and 2000 prints. Only 40% of original prints are matched to original negatives. Around 20% of negatives were contact printed. 105 images were selected for digitisation.
103 photographs (HU 109697 - HU 109799) from both pools (negatives and original prints) were selected for digitisation. The rest of collection exists in an original form only - negatives and prints.
The negatives are divided into two parts:
1. 10 boxes of negative rolls segregated according to topics.
2. 20 original negative albums.
Original prints which cannot be matched to negatives are segregated into 75 envelopes according to topics. Original prints which are matched to negatives are held in two separate boxes. Contact and reference prints developed during cataloguing are kept in marked boxes.
There are also two boxes of loose prints which are impossible to identify due to a lack of original description, mainly photos showing unidentified soldiers in various situations.
