General hospitals were stationed close to railways to facilitate the movement of casualties from Casualty Clearing Stations. Large buildings such as hotels and casinos were requisitioned to house the injured. The Hotel La Rouche, Étretat, Normandy coast accommodated the medical branch of No. 1 General Hospital.
