ARMY FILM AND PHOTOGRAPHIC UNIT VETERANS OF THE SECOND WORLD WAR, 2005
Former AFPU Sergeant Alan Wilson photographed by WO Giles Penfound, Chief Photographer of the successor to the AFPU, the Royal Logistic Corps Media Operations Unit, for a project to mark the 50th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. Mr Wilson is holding his official Army issue cine camera and a wartime photograph showing himself with the same camera.
Alan Wilson served as a cine cameraman with AFPU Section 2 in Italy and Austria from 1943 - 1945 before transferring to Burma where he worked with AFPU Section 9 until 1947. Amongst other subjects, Sgt Wilson filmed the Allied landings at Anzio. After the Second World War, he worked as a television cameraman with ITN, getting his first big break when covering the Profumo affair in the early 1960s.
