The people of Ceylon have presented a mobile cinema van to the East African troops serving in the Far East, who since 1942 have helped to garrison the island. The cinema van was purchased by public subscription and handed over to the troops at a public ceremony in Colombo by the Hon Mr G C S Corea, Ceylon's Minister of Labour, Industry and Commerce and Chairman of the Committee which raised the money for the project. Lieutenant General H E de R Wetherall, then General Officer Commanding Ceylon Army Command and now Commander-in-Chief Ceylon, accepted the van on behalf of the East African troops.
