LADY DELAMERE'S BEAUTIFUL HOME FOR CONVALESCENT SOLDIERS IN KENYA, C. 26 AUGUST 1943
Shortly before her death Lady Gladys Delamere gave her beautiful home at Loresho, 7 miles from Nairobi in Kenya, to the Kenya Red Cross Service. For several years she had run the house as a convalescent home for men of the services and she wished it to be continued as such and to be used for "other ranks only". A picturesque bungalow on top of a high hill overlooking Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Mountains, the house provides beautiful surroundings, good food, rest and recreation - all the things necessary to bring sick men, away from home, back to health and strength. The matron in charge is Miss Baumann who is assisted by Miss O'Niell, a Red Cross VAD. 24 patients can be accommodated in 5 spacious dormitories. A staff of 12 African servants do everything to make the visitors comfortable. Picture shows:- The Medicine Ball provides a pleasant form of exercise for the more active convalescents at Loresho.
