One album (Made in Palestine: leather covered bearing flower and leaf design and panel with relief of David's Tower) containing 199 photographs relating to William Evans' service with the Palestine Police between 1943-45. These include a coloured half-length portrait of Evans in Palestine Police uniform; informal portraits and group photographs of members of the Palestine Police including Evans armed with a sub machine gun and with riot baton and shield. There are also photographs of policemen with a large armoured car; examining a van hit by bullets and at a murder scene. The album also contains numerous photographs (some purchased as commercial souvenir sets) of scenes/buildings in Jerusalem and other towns in Palestine. The former include the various gates of Jerusalem; Holy places such as the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Mosque of the Dome of the Rock and the Wailing Wall. Other locations in the old and new city of Jerusalem include Allenby Square, Julian's Way, Zion Square, junction of Jaffa Road and Princess Mary Avenue, the Central Post Office, Government House, King David Hotel, the Palestine Museum and the YMCA. There are also images of street traders in a bazaar, shoe shiners at the Jaffa Gate and craftsmen working Mother of Pearl. Similar street/market scenes are also found for Bethlehem as are exterior and interior views of the Church of the Nativity, the latter including a photograph of a Christmas service. Other Palestinian locations covered in the album include St George's Convent; the Inn of the Good Samaritan; the Mount of Temptation; the Gardens of Bethesda; Bethany; Jericho and the Jericho road; the River Jordan, the Allenby Bridge and the Dead Sea. There are also photographs taken in Cairo and Alexandria during a visit by William Evans in 1945 (either whilst on leave or when returning to England) which include the Pyramids and Sphinx at Gaza; Malika Farida Square, Kamel Pasha Square, Soliman Pasha Square and the Grand Hotel (all Cairo) and for Alexandria: the main railway station, race course, lighthouse and Stanley Bay beach. The album also contains two photographs of First World War vintage showing Armenians executed by the Turks. Finally, amongst the loose material in the collection is a Certificate of Pilgrimage to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, which records the visit of William Evans on 7 July 1943 and a formal group photograph of 'S' Squad at the Palestine Police Training School in 1943.
