Collection of the 5th Earl of Lonsdale relating to the Court of the German Kaiser Wilhelm II, the Imperial German Army and the Imperial German Navy 1890 - 1914. Includes: 1 leather bound album entitled "Photographs of Their Imperial Majesties The German Emperor and Empress and Suites during Their Tour in the Holy Land 1898" presented to Lord Lonsdale by Graf Wedel (Master of the Horse at the Kaiser's Court) containing 24 prints; 1 leather bound album presented to Lord Lonsdale by the Kaiserin Augusta Viktoria, containing a hand written message to him from her and 128 prints of her personal photographs of the visit to Palestine in 1898; 1 portfolio containing 25 mounted prints entitled "Der Nord - Ostsee - Kanal" covering the construction and views of the Kiel Canal 1894 - 1895; 1 leather bound album entitled "Hubertusjagd 1895" presented to Lord Lonsdale by the Kaiser containing hand written dedication "The Royal Hounds photographs taken on the day of St Huberts Chase - A small token of my warm friendship to Lord Lonsdale from William IR" and 6 prints of the Kaiser's hunting party; 1 leather bound album containing 16 studio portraits of the Kaiser and other members of the Royal Family by T H Voigt, Court Photographer, Frankfurt a M; 1 composite print - portraits of the German Emperors Wilhelm I, Frederick, Wilhelm II and Crown Prince Wilhelm 1885; 7 Christmas cards from the Kaiser to Lord Lonsdale (consisting of portraits of the Kaiser with his handwritten greetings for the years 1903, 1907, 1909, 1910, 1911, 1913 and 1938) and 2 Christmas cards of similar format from Crown Prince Wilhelm; 14 assorted portraits of the Kaiser, Crown Prince Wilhelm and Princess Viktoria Luise including some taken at Doorn c. 1938; 1 signed portrait of the Kaiser commemorating his visit to Lowther Castle in 1902; photograph and newscutting relating to the Kaiser's visit to Konigsberg, 6 September 1894 (where he castigated the Prussian landowners for their resistance to his agricultural reforms); 363 photographs by various German court photographers of the annual Imperial German Army manoeuvres 1898 - 1906 (including those attended by Winston Churchill); 2 mounted prints showing the attempt to assassinate King Alfonso XII of Spain on his wedding day in Madrid, May 1906; and various other photographs taken at Kiel, Berlin and Ems.
