An album of black and white photographs relating to Vice Admiral Sir Geoffrey Barnard's naval service on the battleship HMS VALIANT on the Mediterranean Station, 1924 - 1925. Subjects include: the passage out from Plymouth to Gibraltar; HMS VALIANT entering the Grand Harbour at Malta; crew taking part in 'abandon ship' drill at Alexandria in November 1924; visit to the Pyramids; landing party from HMS VALIANT taking part in a 'show of strength' march past parade in Alexandria in November 1924; HMS VALIANT in dry dock during January 1925; 'Spring Cruise' exercise in the Mediterranean with British warships including HMS MALAYA, 1925; HMS VALIANT's marathon running team taking part in a race during March 1925 and presentation of trophy to the team on winning; fleet review at Maesa during visit by the First Lord of the Admiralty in 1925; HMS VALIANT taking part in a competative firing exercise; the French cruiser MULHOUSE making smoke in harbour at Malta; British army field artillery and lorries being loaded on board HMS VALIANT at Malta in April 1925 (photographs captioned 'The Invasion of Malta.' Also scenes from the Mediterranean Fleet's summer cruise including a regatta at Corfu in August 1925; also a weekend camp on Lemnos in September 1935. There are also ship portraits of HMS VALIANT, HMS DORSETSHIRE and the INS DELHI. Other photographs show a Fairey Flycatcher amphibian aircraft in flight over Malta and the catapult take off by a Fairey 111F aircraft.
Physical description
Khaki cloth covered photograph album with the word 'Album' in white capital letters within a white linear design. The album has brown pages to whihc are glued black and white photographic prints. Annotations handwritten in ink are to be found on the album pages. Also five loose black and white photographic prints with either handwritten annotations, ink stamps of typed paper labels on the reverse.
