Glass lantern slides of photographs, illustrations and maps relating to the Second Boer War (1899-1902) and the part played by the active service company of the Volunteer Battalion, King's Own (Royal Lancaster) Regiment, whihc served as part of the regiment's 2nd Battalion in South Africa. The set of lantern slides were probably once used to illustrate a lecture as many of the images are general to the Second Boer War rather than specific to the service of the Volunteers.
Glass lantern slides, most with black or white adhesive paper tape around edges. A number of the slides have printed or handwritten labels and titles showing the slides were produced for commercial sale. The film negatives are copies of the lantern slides.
