Commemorative photograph album of prints covering the Tirah Expeditionary Force 1897-1898, taken and printed by the Bombay Sappers and Miners.Images include: Fort Cavagnari; Fort Lockhart; interior of Saraghari Post; scenes in the Arhunga Pass including the Bombay Sappers and Miners road building; Maidan including Expeditionary Force camp; No.8 (British) Mountain Battery in action near Maidan on 9 November 1897; Saiyad Akbar's musjid at Waran and items taken after its occupation by the Expeditionary Force; piquet of the 3rd Gurkha Rifles at Bagh; the river between Bagh and Dotoi; General Hammond's camp in the Bara Valley; Jamrud Fort; the Khyber Pass from Jamrud; Karamna in the Bazaar Valley; Ali Musjid including 1st Brigade camp; Shinwari villages north of Landi Kotal with 5th Brigade camp in distance; Landi Kotal including the Serai and camp of 3rd Brigade and camp of 34th Pioneers and No.4 Company Bombay Sappers and Miners. Also various panoramic views including valley north of Saran Sar Pass; from the Tseri Kandao looking east over Waran; the Bagh Valley looking south west; Kanki Bazaar looking north east; Mustura Valley between Haider Khel and Bar And Khel; view from Landi Kotal looking towards Afghanistan. Physical description
Landscape format photograph album with green cloth and leather cover (leather spoint and leading corners). Title in gold lettering on front cover: 'PHOTOGRAPHS. TIRAH EXPERITIONARY FORCE 1897-98' 'Taken and printed by the Bombay Sappers and Miners.' First page of album has a with compliments slip from the Adjutant of the Royal Hospital Chelsea pinned to page and a signatire dated 8.8.98. Photographic prints are fixed to album pages and most have a types paper caption. A number of additional prints dating from 1899 - 1900 have accompanying handwritten captions and notes.
