Fortitude
Operation Bodyguard consisted of two vital components: "Fortitude" North and South.
Fortitude North was the threat to invade Norway. Fortitude South was the more complex, and arguably the most important deception plan in
the entire war. It was conducted with the intention of persuading the Germans that an invasion would come to the Pas de Calais- a logical
strategic choice for an invasion, being the closest part of France to England.
Central to this deception was the creation of phantom armies, rubber tanks, dummy landing craft, inflatable planes and most importantly,
double agents.'
