obverse design : warrior, naked, on rearing horse facing left, driving his lance into the breast of a fallen warrior
lying, head to left, below the horse's raised forelegs
reverse design : eagle, crowned, perching facing left, wings folded, upon a sword positioned horizontally within crossed branches of oak
reverse text : "WELTKRIEG 1914-1916"
This 1916 piece by Lindl offers an unusually distanced and conventional commemoration of the First World War in terms
of the clichéd symbols of chivalric victor and vanquished. This unremarkable interpretation is complemented, on the reverse, by the re-
assuringly familiar image of the German eagle. The reverse text is translated as 'World War 1914-1916'.
